Mahindra & Mahindra Alumni Group mourns the sad demise of Mr. Bishwambhar Mishra on 6th June 2020. He was an organizational transformation leader, a change management catalyst and a facilitator.
He retired from Mahindra and Mahindra, after having served for 17 years in various critical roles such as Chief Executive of Tractors, Farm mechanisation and Earth-moving Equipment business, COO of Farm Sector, MD and CEO of erstwhile Punjab Tractors (now Swaraj division of Mahindra) and Director of Mahindra Institute of Quality (MIQ), an organisation devoted to the development promotion of Lean management and capability building. As COO, he led the change management project of the Farm Equipment business in Mahindra which not only thwarted the serious challenges posed by world’s largest tractor companies but also enhanced M&M’s position as a leader, making it world’s largest tractor company by volume. In his illustrious career, he won several prestigious honours like Deming Prize and Japan Quality Medal.
As MD and CEO of Punjab Tractor, an ailing business acquired by Mahindra in 2007, he led the transformation journey and within four years, under his leadership, the company transformed into a performance powerhouse. Punjab Tractor transformation journey was developed as a case study by IIMC and Business Today featured it a near-perfect case of acquisition.
In his long stint with Mahindra, he served on many important boards of the group companies e.g. Mahindra USA, Mahindra China, Mahindra Gujarat Tractor, Swaraj Engines and Swaraj Automotive. Besides business management, he had been deeply associated with the organisations promoting Quality and improving organisational health. He was the ex-chairman of Manufacturing Council of CII (Northern Region), past President of Indian Society for Quality and a board member of Asian Network for Quality. He was also associated with the educational institutions and served as member of the Governing Council of PEC University of Technology and as the Chairman of the Governing council of PEC Centre for Computational Engineering.
